He didn't get a tip, not from us.The Holiday Inn and Suites Salt Lake City Airport West offers some of the best accommodations in Salt Lake City. After he took off out two carry-ons at the airport, John demanded a tip stating that what he does is a service. Due to this I decided against giving him a tip. His answer was that he is only a driver and I should do that. During the ride to the airport I realized that I forgot to return the keys for the room and asked him to drop them at teh hotel when he returns. However, in the morning, we had the misfortune to have John as our shuttle driver. Upon arrival, David, the shuttle driver at that time approached us and offered some excellent advice that saved us time and possible aggravation at 4am next day. We had an excellent and a terrible experience with two shuttle drivers.
It gets too hot before it turns on and too cold before it turns off. I cannot sleep well when the AC keeps turning on and off. Unfortunately the constant fan option for the AC was disabled, which is a problem for me. We stayed 1 night before our 7 am flight. The price was more reasonable than others in the area, so this should be a consideration when making your hotel choice. Overall, the hotel was perfectly adequate but not anything special. Very oddly, the bathroom door would not stay open, which was most irritating. The wall around the shower was raised, most likely from being waterlogged at one time. There was a chunk missing from the carpet at the door, so it was loose and frayed in that spot. There was definite wear on the furniture the vinyl on the seat of the desk chair was worn right through to the fabric backing. The room itself was pleasant enough, but it was dated and a bit run-down. This was disappointing, but the timing of this maintenance was understandable after a weekend of probably heavy use. When we went on a Monday morning, the spa was out of service because it was being refilled and chemicals replaced.
The staff is very pleasant and helpful, which is a definite plus. It is VERY convenient to the interstate, and the trip to downtown is short and fairly direct. It is a very attractive building on its exterior and boasts a really beautiful lobby.
